Common Questions About the Pre-Sediment Filter

Do I need this if I'm on city water?

It depends on what's upstream — city water is filtered before it reaches your home, so sediment is usually low. But sediment can still enter from aging distribution pipes or nearby construction. If you're installing a softener or carbon filter, a pre-sediment filter is a low-cost add-on that protects that equipment.

Is it required for well water?

Yes — a sediment pre-filter is almost always the first stage of any well water treatment system. Well water commonly contains sand, silt, and rust that will damage softener resin, foul iron filter media, and shorten the life of every downstream component.

How often do I need to change the cartridge?

It depends on your water's sediment load — well water with heavy sediment may need changes more often, especially at first until you learn your baseline. We'll set a schedule at installation.
