How does air injection remove iron without chemicals?
The system injects a pocket of air into the tank, which oxidizes dissolved iron and manganese as water passes through it — converting them into particles that get trapped in the filter media, then flushed out during an automatic backwash cycle. No chlorine or chemical feed pumps are involved, so there's nothing to refill besides the media itself over time.
Will this also soften my water?
No — this system is built specifically for iron, manganese, and sulfur removal. If your well water is also hard, we'd pair it with a separate softener or recommend our Well Water Dual Tank system, which combines both in one installation.
Does it also remove the rotten-egg smell?
Yes — air injection oxidation is designed to remove both iron and hydrogen sulfide (the gas responsible for the rotten-egg smell) in the same unit. A free water test confirms your levels so we can size the system correctly.
How much maintenance does it need?
The backwash cycle is automatic and runs on a schedule, so there's no salt or chemicals to add. The filter media eventually needs replacing, depending on your water's iron load — we'll walk you through the timing at installation.
