Common Questions About the Softener + Carbon Filtration

Is a combined unit as effective as separate tanks?

For moderate hardness and chlorine levels, a combined unit performs well and is more space-efficient. For very hard water or heavy chlorine/chloramine levels, a dual-tank system generally gives each stage more capacity and a longer service life between maintenance.

Does it still need salt, and how much?

Yes — the softening side uses the same ion-exchange process as any salt-based softener and needs salt in the brine tank, refilled on a similar schedule to a standalone softener.
